A method is described which allows rapid and inexpensive estimating of API° gravities on very small samples of crude oils, reservoir rocks, tars, and solid bitumens with the Rock-Eval 6 instrument. The technique is similar to one described by Trabelsi, et al (1994) which used the Rock-Eval 3 Oil Show Analyzer, but contains substantial improvements made possible by the new functionalities of the Rock-Eval 6.
