PETROLEUM SYSTEMS OF SOUTHERN TRINIDAD
An Integrated Geochemical Study

A Proposal from

GEOCHEMICAL SOLUTIONS INTERNATIONAL, INC. and BASELINE DGSI, INC.

March 2004

Executive Summary

GEOCHEMICAL SOLUTIONS INTERNATIONAL, INC. (GSI) and BASELINE/ DGSI INC. are undertaking a non-exclusive, multi-client study of the petroleum systems of southern Trinidad, including the Gulf of Paria. The sedimentary sub-basins encompassed in this region include the onshore Southern Basin, the Caroni Basin and the Central Range Area. Nearly 1.5 billion barrels have been produced from this mature petroleum province, primarily from Pliocene and Miocene sandstone reservoirs. These large volumes were generated from prolific Upper Cretaceous source rocks that occur throughout much of South America.

The study will identify and define geographic limits of petroleum systems in the region through geochemical analysis of over 140 oils from nearly every significant accumulation and producing horizon. State-of-the-art analytical techniques will be used to evaluate: (1) source facies, (2) thermal maturity, and (3) degree of alteration (biodegradation; migration/fractionation; mixing). Geochemical analysis of gases from selected areas will be incorporated in this assessment. Source rock data from both public domain and newly-released sources will be compiled and used to assess timing and volumetrics of hydrocarbon generation and migration.

The study will be subdivided geographically into three regions, which will be available for individual purchase:

Eastern Region - Thirty-three (33) oils from nearly every major accumulation in the eastern region study, including fluid and gas samples from the recent Carapal Ridge field. Hydrocarbons from both Pliocene and Miocene reservoirs are represented in the eastern region.

Western Region - The western region encompasses the main onshore production trend and includes some of the oldest developed fields in Trinidad. A total of 60 oils from predominantly Pliocene reservoir intervals in this region are included.

Gulf of Paria / Soldado Field The offshore Soldado complex was discovered in the mid-1950's and has accounted for nearly a third of the total oil production in Trinidad. A total of 48 fluid samples are included from the various Soldado pools.

A discount will be extended to companies purchasing all three regional studies, and a single interpretative report integrating the regional results will be provided to those participants.

Deliverables will include printed analytical data volumes and an interpretative final report containing key data maps as well as oil-oil, oil-source and gas-source correlations, thermal maturity evaluation, and assessment of post-generative alteration. All geochemical data will be provided in a relational database on CD. In addition, interpreted geochemical data and secondary data from various sources will be incorporated into an ArcGIS project file that will also be distributed.
